Our history
Beekeeper was founded in 2012 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. Originally, we were a dating application that allowed college students to connect with one another. These students quickly realized that they could also use the app to communicate and network very efficiently and digitally. Before long, this dating app transformed into a communication platform for students, on which they also exchanged study tips, organized social events, and kept up with each other’s activities.
Then, we got in contact with our first business customer. This customer was actually a company in the hotel industry that wanted to provide a digital communication tool for their employees. Thus, Beekeeper further developed into an internal communication platform for companies with many employees who do not work on the computer but on the front line. Even then, it was not only about reaching out to employees, but also about giving employees a voice and the opportunity to contribute and to communicate and collaborate efficiently with each other and their leadership teams.
Internal communication is an important foundation, but it's only the beginning of digitizing frontline work. That's why Beekeeper has been able to be used more operationally over time and has evolved into a Frontline Success System over the years. It provides employees with everything they need to do great work, so that workers live better lives and businesses thrive.
Beekeeper now has over 200 employees in Switzerland, Germany, Poland and the United States. We proudly serve over 1,000 customers worldwide and over 400,000 employees use Beekeeper on a weekly basis.
